Patra, Gopchade arrive, discuss PM's visit

IMPHAL, Sep 10 : BJP North East coordinator Sambit Patra and Manipur in-charge Dr Ajit Gopchade landed in Imphal today around 1.30 pm ahead of the anticipated visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13.
The two BJP leaders were received by BJP MLAs viz Dr S Ranjan, L Susindro, Th Basantakuamr, party (State unit) president A Sharda Devi and other leaders at the Bir Tikendraji International Airport.
However, the BJP Central leaders as well as the  party MLAs and office bearers avoided interactions with media personnel at both the airport and Thambal Shanglen at Nityaipat Chuthek where a meeting was held in the evening.
It is reported that Sambit Patra and Ajit Gopchade arrived today to assess the preparations for the Prime Minister's visit and the events scheduled at Imphal's Kangla and Churachandpur Peace Ground.
Upon their arrival, they went to Kangla Fort and inspected the venue of a public meeting which will be addressed by the Prime Minister.
Later, the two BJP Central leaders held a meeting with party MLAs and office bearers, including Sharda Devi, starting at 5 pm at Thambal Shanglen to discuss preparations for the Prime Minister's visit.
The meeting which was held for over an hour was attended by 29 BJP MLAs including former Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata and those who defected from JD (U) attended the meeting.
Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Kebi and seven Kuki BJP MLAs didn't attend the meeting.
During the meeting, Sambit Patra told the party MLAs and office bearers to support the preparations for the Prime Minister's visit. Ajit Gopchade advised them to mobilise crowds along the road where the Prime Minister would pass, ensuring a warm welcome. Sambit Patra and Ajit Gopchade also met coalition partner MLAs from NPP, NPF, JD(U) and independent MLAs around 8 pm at Hotel Imphal at North AOC to discuss the Prime Minister's visit. The two BJP leaders will head to Churachandpur tomorrow by road and  hold a similar meeting with the party MLAs and also inspect the preparations at the Peace Ground.
