Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, September 14 warned of alleged plots to alter border-region demographics, saying such efforts pose a grave threat to National security and must be countered decisively.
Addressing a public gathering in Assam's Darramg, Modi said a Nationwide “demography mission” has been launched to prevent what he described as infiltration-driven population changes in border districts.
He framed the initiative as part of the BJP’s broader objective to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity and protect citizens from illegal entrants.
Modi challenged the Opposition who, he said, defend or shelter alleged infiltrators to publicly explain what steps they have taken to remove them.
“Show what you have done compared with the efforts we have made,” he said, warning that those who provide sanctuary to infiltrators “will have to pay the price” and that the Nation would not forgive such actions.
The Prime Minister linked the demography concern to National security, urging stricter measures and sustained administrative action in border areas.
He also called for political accountability, asserting that the BJP’s policies prioritize the protection of Indian citizens and the unity of the Nation.
Local officials at the event reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening border management and said the new measures would include enhanced verification and en- forcement mechanisms. Ci-vil society and Opposition leaders are likely to respond in the coming days, setting the stage for a broader debate on immigration, citi- zenship verification and human rights in sensitive border districts.  IT NE
