Seeds of Silence
Riri
“Every time she lies, another seed appears in her mouth.”
She discovered it the first time when she said a small harmless lie,
‘I am fine.’
The words slipped out of her mouth smoothly, but moments later she felt something hard pressed against her tongue,
it was a blood red pomegranate seed.
At first it was one and two.
Tiny lies, tiny seeds.
But the more she lied to protect,
to escape, to survive...
More seeds inside her bloom,
day by day, continuing lying
everyday to protect, to escape, to survive...
She tries to say something but the seeds choked her mouth,
perhaps she was lying too much that even the curse pity on her?
But she still tried to speak,
not giving up, the seeds spilled on the ground,
all red and making the floor messy.
She apologized even if it wasn't her fault.
She knows about her curse properly now,
she thinks it’s better to keep quiet
than lie or try to express herself.
Her lips pressed shut,
trembling with fear
with worry she might mess up again.
She always stays quiet now
because she knows
a lie can grow roots
a lie can become a tree
or even a forest
the floor covered in moss
where no one can step in
but herself.
