Under water
IMPHAL, Sep 21 : Claiming that their locality remains flooded for the past eight months, residents of Naoremthong Shamusang Lairembi Leirak have urged the relevant authorities to look into the matter and address their grievances at the earliest.
Addressing the media, Kshetrimayum Bala, a resident, said that the drain which has been running through Naoremthong Shamusang Lairembi Leirak and Sana Uku Leirak since before 1970 was separated into two sections some time back.
Stating that the drainage system on the southern side of the drain has been completed, Kshetrimayum Bala noted that there, however, is no outlet for water flow on the northern side, thereby flooding the nearby areas.
She stated that the two localities, namely Shamusang Lairembi Leirak and Sana Uku, agreed to create an outlet on the northern side of the drain to alleviate flooding, but some individuals opposed the plan.
Stating that the flooding has made it unsafe for them to reside in the area due to snakes, various ailments, and foul odours, she urged the relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the crisis.
