36th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship S Jenish, Th Panan and Th Nigita Devi make podium finish in 5000 m racewalk

IMPHAL, Sep 23 : Manipur’s Sorokhaibam Jenish Meitei, Thokchom Panan Meitei and Thangjam Nigita Devi made podium finish in the 36th East Zone Junior Athletics Championship hosted by Jharkhand Athletics Association at Morabadi Football Stadium, Ranchi from September 22.
Both Sorokhaibam Jenish and Thangjam Nigita settled for silver medals in the 5000 m racewalk competition as Thokchom Panan Meitei grabbed a bronze medal.
Competing in the U-18 men’s section, Sorokhaibam Jenish took 22 minutes 15.40 seconds (22:15.40) to seal the silver as compatriot Panan finished third in 22:21.71 to earn the bronze medal.
The gold medal of the age category (U-18 men’s) in the meantime went to Firdous Alam of Assam who completed the course in 22:01.69.
In the meantime, Nigita clocked 26 minutes 54.41 seconds to finish second in the U-20 women’s competition.
The zonal competition being conducted under the aegis of the Athletics Federation of India will conclude tomorrow.
