Thoubal district script history by hosting first District Olympic Games

THOUBAL, Sep 24 : Thoubal district scripted history by organising 1st District Olympic Games 2025, first of its kind in any district of the State.
The games organised by District Olympic Association Thoubal under the auspices of the Manipur Olympic Association and the district administration was formally opened at Kodompokpi Sports Complex in the presence of  DC Thoubal Hannah Kamei; Manipur Olympic Association’s president Sunil Elangbam; DIG Range-II Jogeshchandra Haobijam; Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Director Dr M Veto Singh; SP Thoubal Shivanand Surve; CO 3rd IRB S Hemanta Singh and Mera Yuva Bharat, Manipur’s State director L Marjitkumar Singh and others.
The 5-day games that feature 20 sports disciplines bring together 1950 individuals including athletes, team officials, technical officials and volunteers.
 DC Thoubal taking salutes from various contingents, athletes taking oath to uphold sporting spirit and Arjun Awardee Wushu player W Sandhyarani Devi leading the event torch from Khongjom War Memorial Complex to the opening venue were the main highlights of the opening ceremony.
Notably athletes representing various clubs, Government departments, educational institutes will compete for top honours in Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Judo, Kabadi, Kho Kho, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Wushu, Sepak Takraw, Mukna, Polo, Jeet Kune do, Wrestling, Shooting and Karate events.
The day also saw HKKSA, Haokha Kiyam play PATHAP FC, Lilong in the opening match of the football tournament.
Addressing the occasion, DC Thoubal and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Hannah Kahmei, stated that the event is being organized with the support of the community to promote unity and peace amidst challenges.
Noting the overwhelming response from athletes, she emphasized that the event's success and the district's growth largely depend on their shoulders.
She expressed her hope that the event would inspire similar initiatives across the State and appealed for continued support from all sections of society to make the games a resounding success.
