IMPHAL, Sep 28: Educa-tion must include teachings to inculcate good moral values in students, Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam has said.
The MLA said this during a programme held to felicitate National Teacher Awardee, Kangabam Machasana, Headmistress of Ghari Upper Primary School.
The felicitation programme was organised by the Keishampat Thiyam Leikai Chanura Chaokhat Thourang Lup at the local community hall.
Speaking at the event, Nishikant stressed on the importance of instilling good moral values among the students.
Without good moral values, academic degrees  have no meaning, he said.
A person may earn many degrees. But without good moral values, he or she will remain "uneducated," Nishikant said.
Education must include teachings to instill good moral values in students. Teachers shouldn't focus only on imparting textbook knowledge, he said.
Instilling good moral and human values in students will help them become good human beings who can contribute positively to the society, Nishikant said.
Teachers nurture and shape the future generation. Their role in shaping the Nation's future is immense.  There is no profession greater than a teacher, he added.
With rapidly evolving technologies, a gap will emerge between children and parents. Teachers are those who will plug this gap, he opined.
Oja Machasana winning the prestigious award from President Droupadi Murmu is a proud moment for not only this locality but the whole of Manipur. The feat will inspire other teachers to work with dedication, Nishikant said.
Keishampat Thiyam Leikai Chaokhat Thourang Lup (Meira) president Thounaojam ongbi Mita Devi, Ward No 9 Cooperator Soram Sunil, retired Prof Thiyam Jekendra, Dr K Nareshkumar and former Associate Professor DMU Dr Samadram Surchandra Singh attended the programme.
