IMPHAL, Sep 5: In a first for Manipur, white topping of the Palace Road has started today. White topping is the laying of concrete road over existing bituminous (asphalt) pavement.
The white topping work is being implemented by AMRIL-IRCON under Ma-nipur Urban Road Drainage Asset Management Improvement Project (MUR- DAMIP). Under the project, white topping will be done on a stretch of 250 kilometres of road in Imphal East and Imphal West, said an official of the AMRIL-IRCON joint venture. The thickness of the white topped Palace road will be 170mm and 122 metres wide.
White topping serves as a structural overlay to streng-then and extend life-spans of roads. It will reduce problems like potholes and poor drainage, said the official.
