IMPHAL, Sep 5: In an incident that raised safety concerns for North East women in the National capital, a person was caught using a spy-camera to record up-skirt videos at a Kishangarh market recently.
The incident happened on August 30 when a woman from the North-East and her friends were visiting the market in the evening.
While they were browsing goods to buy in the market, the woman "felt something pushed in between her legs."
"When she looked down, she saw a lighter- like object placed between the toes of an unknown person from behind. She quickly snatched the lighter and a commotion started after which the unknown person kept stalking them around the market asking for his lighter back," said an FIR filed with the police.
After reaching home, and upon closer inspection, the woman and her friends found out that the device was not a lighter but a concealed spy camera which had over 30GB files containing videos of NE women being secretly recorded.
With the help of the Angami Krotho Delhi (AKD), the woman then filed a complaint with the Kishangarh police.
After an FIR was registered, the police arrested the accused person and took him to custody.
The woman's wise and brave decision, her presence of mind to seize the device and courage to hold on to it even after being stalked has been the key factor in apprehending the culprit and bringing justice to all those who have been secretly filmed. Her brave action has also prevented the same horror from happening to others, AKD said.
The Naga Students' Union, Delhi (NSUD) has meanwhile lauded Angami Krotho Delhi (AKD) for its prompt action, and urged all women, particularly from the North East residing in Delhi to remain vigilant and report without hesitation any suspicious behaviour or unlawful act to the nearest police authority, student body or community representatives.
