LNKK decries
CHANDEL, Sep 7 : Condemning the error in calling traditional Lamkang Naga women's attire as Kuki traditional wear during Handloom Expo 2025 held in Agartala, the apex bodies of Lamkang Naga tribe have demanded an explanation from the organisers by September 15.
Denouncing the expo held from August 7 to 11, the Lamkang Naga Kver Kunpun (LNKK) and the Lamkang Naga Students' Union of Chandel, Manipur said that a Kuki woman dressed in traditional Lamkang Naga women's clothing was mistakenly reported as a traditional Kuki display at the expo, according to a press release issued by LNKK.
In this regard, the apex bodies have demanded- an unconditional apology from the "main culprit" to the Lamkang Naga people through electronic media, a clarification from the organisers to explain how the traditional show was executed without any verification of the attires and permanent deletion of the controversial part of the show from video files and social media such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram etc.
According to the civil society organisations of the Lamkang Naga tribe, the organizers should have properly screened the attire before proceeding with the show and the blunder reveals ignorance on their part about the procedure to be followed for such a show.
LNKK cautioned that the Lamkang Naga tribe will take up actions as per its customary law if the authority concerned fails to respond to their demands.
The expo was organised by the Directorate of Handloom, Handicrafts & Sericulture, Government of Tripura.
