IMPHAL, Sep 8 : All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) president L Nganbi Leima has expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's planned visit to Manipur, questioning whether a brief visit will be enough to resolve the State's ongoing crisis. She made the statement during AMKIL's 25th foundation day observance at Lamyanba Shanglen at Palace Compound today.
Addressing the function, she stated that there is no reason to celebrate the Prime Minister’s visit and added that many people share her sentiment, as the Prime Minister has chosen to remain silent about the Manipur crisis.
She also pointed out that the State's roads and infrastructure, which have been neglected for a considerable period, are suddenly being repaired in anticipation of the Prime Minister's visit, implying a lack of genuine concern for the State's development.
Expressing doubt that the Prime Minister will resolve the crisis by visiting the State for a few hours, Nganbi Leima maintained that the people of Manipur will welcome him if he shows commitment to restore normalcy.
Nganbi Leima also expressed desire for the people of Manipur to raise a common demand to the Prime Minister, following a thorough discussion, to ensure peaceful coexistence. Regarding the extension of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact, she added that the move was an insult to the elected representatives who had passed a resolution to cancel the agreement during a State Assembly session.
