MT 400 Kolkata : Th Tuleswor settles for singles runner up title

IMPHAL, Jan 9 : Thongbam Tuleswor had to settle with another runners up title at the MT400 Kolkata as he retired hurt in the 55 yrs men’s singles final today.
Tuleswor, who settled for the runners up title in the 55 years men’s doubles competition yesterday, was trailing 5-7 behind Ashish Jain when his knee injury forced him to retire.
Tuleswor reached the singles final with a 6-1, 6-4 semi-final win over Subhash Pashottambhai Patel yesterday.
He earlier got a bye in the Round of 32 and sealed a 6-0, 7-5 win over Yogesh Kohli in the Round of 16 before easing past Kartick Shah 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals to cruise into the semi-finals.
Tuleswor and Balan Ramadas, yesterday went down 2-6, 1-6 to Mamawia Lalthanmawia and Venugopal Manghat to settle for the doubles’ runners up.
Manipur’s Yumnam Dolhanjit also reached the men’s 40 years doubles semi-final but could not advance to the final.
Dolhanjit, drawn with Mukesh Debbarma, registered an easy 6-2, 6-0 win over Ashwani Kumar Lal and Tanmoy Raha in the quarterfinals but bowed out 0-6, 1-6 to Saurav Panja and Manoj Sewa in the semi-finals.
