IMPHAL, Jan 9 : Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has called on the people of Manipur to oppose all divisive policies.
Speaking to the media after paying tribute at the Maharaj Gambhir Singh Memorial Complex at Langthabal, the Congress MP emphasised that what people should learn from Maharaj Gambhir Singh is his unwavering resistance and courage in the face of adversity.
The valor displayed by Maharaj Gambhir Singh holds contemporary relevance, as the situation in Manipur mirrors the Chahi Taret Khuntakpa period, he said.
To a media query, Bimol stated that it would be best to hold fresh elections in Manipur or, at the very least, install an elected Government whether good or bad rather than allowing the State to be governed by bureaucrats.
Let the BJP form its Government, but they need to at least understand the issues in Manipur and the challenges that need to be addressed, he said.
He added that the State Government should not be allowed to be dictated by the Centre.
Claiming that all institutions in Manipur have collapsed and the State is divided along ethnic lines, he stated that the top priority should be restoring Manipur's identity.
Issues such as armed conflict, illegal immigration, NRC, drugs, and demographic imbalance can be addressed on a priority basis, once the State's identity is restored, he said.
