Man accused of sexual assault remanded

IMPHAL, Jan 12: A 23-year old man accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl has been remanded to police custody till January 19, 2026.        
The accused was produced before the Special Court POCSO Imphal West in-charge by a team of Singjamei police station today.
A Special PP of the State submitted that a complaint was lodged by the father of the minor victim stating that his minor daughter went out from their house at around 2 pm on January 7 but she failed to come back home till the complaint was filed on December 8.
In the course of an extensive search, it came to light that the minor girl was taken away by the 23-year old divorced man having a son but the whereabouts of the minor girl could not be established.
Subsequently, a case was registered for investigation.
During investigation, Singjamei police were able to rescue the minor victim and arrest the accused on January 11 from Salungpham, Thoubal district under Heirok police station.
During examination, the minor victim stated that she was sexually assaulted by the accused at different places. The alleged accused too admitted that he had sexually assaulted the minor girl at different places.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the Special PP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused in police custody till January 19, 2026.
