‘Run for Swadeshi’ organised
IMPHAL, Jan 12 : On the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Manipur successfully organised the ‘Run for Swadeshi’ to promote indigenous values, ethical principles, physical fitness, and the spirit of self-reliance. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 150 students, along with faculty members and non-teaching staff of the Institute.
The run was organised by the Gymkhana Council, IIIT Manipur, with active support from the Dean, Student Affairs, and the Registrar of the Institute, and was conducted under the supervision of Prof Krishnan Baskar, Director, IIIT Manipur.
The route of the run extended from the IIIT Manipur campus at Mantripukhri to Kangla and back, symbolising both physical endurance and cultural connection.
The event featured two competitive categories, an Open category and a category reserved for Girls, with first, second, third, and consolation prizes, each accompanied by cash awards, to encourage wide participation and sportsmanship.
Faculty members and non-teaching staff actively participated in the run, including the Registrar, Dr Kishorjit Nongmeikjapam, reflecting the Institute’s collective commitment to holistic well-being and community engagement.
Moreover, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Manipur University under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India organised a ‘Run for Swadeshi’ today to commemorate the 164th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
The run was flagged off from Manipur University Traffic Point by Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor, MU, in the presence of Prof S Jibankumar Singh, Dean, School of Human & Environmental Science, MU; Prof M Premjit Singh, Registrar, MU; Dr Ksh Narayan Singh, president, MUTA; and Prof Ch Ibohal Singh, Dean, Students’ Welfare, MU.
Offering of floral tributes to a photograph of Swami Vivekananda and release of MUTA calendar & diary were the main highlights of the event.
