IMPHAL, Jan 18: Two BJP MLAs have expressed strong confidence that a popular Government would be reinstated in the State soon.
While MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor has stated that he is 100 per cent confident that the Centre would give nod to formation of a popular Government shortly, MLA Lourembam Rameshwor has stated that a popular Government is likely to be reinstated by January 26, 2026.
Together with media persons, Sapam Kunjakeswor today made a spot inspection of the ongoing blacktopping work of Moirang Hanuba Maning Ipu Leirak.
Responding to a query raised by media persons regarding the latest meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and ex-Chief Minister N Biren, Kunjakeswor said that the meeting was held at the initiative of the Union Home Minister.
Saying that he believed the meeting was on the formation of a popular Government in place of the President’s Rule, Kunjakeswor said that the meeting might also have deliberated on resettlement of IDPs and the dismantling of the Indo-Myanmar border fence.
Many other issues of Manipur might also have figured during the meeting, he said.
“I talked with the ex-Chief Minister over the telephone very briefly. As such, what exactly transpired during the meeting between Amit Shah and N Biren is unknown to me”, Kunjakeswor said.
On being enquired about  BJP MLA L Susindro’s statement that formation of a popular Government is unlikely anytime soon, Kunjakeswor, citing his own sources, maintained that a popular Government will be reinstated soon.
He went on to claim that BJP MLAs have no difference of opinion on the new Government’s leader.
All the MLAs have reached a broad understanding to support the leader chosen by the Centre, he said.
He added that the new leader will be selected by the BJP high command.
Kunjakeswor said that he has been working to black-top most roads of Patsoi AC by February 2026.
On the other hand, MLA Lourembam Rameshwor has claimed there is a strong possibility of forming a popular Government by January 26, 2026.
The MLA was speaking at the 45th foundation day of Arapti Mayai Leikai Social Club today. Rameshwor said that he has been working to see that Keirao AC is not lagging behind other Assembly segments in terms of roads, education, healthcare facilities, drinking water etc. Arapti road would be constructed as one of the best roads in the State and the construction work has already begun, he added.
