IMPHAL, Jan 19: The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has sent a 32-year-old youth identified as Leishangthem Amarjeet to judicial custody for allegedly uploading nude photographs and videos of a woman on social media platforms.
Leishangthem Amarjeet hails from Bashikhong Mamang Leikai.
He was produced before the Court after the completion of the police custody period by Cyber Crime Police.
While he was produced before the Court requesting judicial custody remand, the defense counsel filed a remand objection and prayed for bail. Amarjeet was arrested after a complaint was filed by the victim on December 26, 2025.
The two became friends on Facebook in August 2023 and later exchanged contact numbers.
The complaint said she became emotionally attached with the accused, thinking about his two children, after he allegedly told him that his wife had eloped to another man in December 2024.
The two then had physical relationship in September 2025, but found out that the accused was engaged in "sex-chats" on Facebook Messenger with multiple women. She then became worried and stayed away from him, said the complaint.
When she tried to sever ties with him on December 17, 2025, the accused allegedly threatened that he would upload her nude photographs and videos on social media.
On December 23, the accused allegedly put her nude photographs and videos as "status" on WhatsApp.
Later, on December 26, photographs were then posted on Facebook and later deleted by the accused person.
During the course of investigation, the Assistant Public Prosecutor said the cyber crime police have seized 5 mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
On preliminary interrogation, the accused has admitted to recording the indecent videos of the victim on his mobile phone and uploading them on social media platforms, said the APP.
Cyber police have recovered evidence including nude photographs and videos of the victim from the phones of the accused, said the APP.
The accused has committed a serious offence of criminal intimidation, extortion and publishing/transmitting obscene material in electronic form by threatening the victim and repeatedly uploading her intimate photos and videos on social media platforms. The accused has demonstrated a deliberate pattern of criminal conduct by uploading the victim's intimate content on four separate occasions, said the Prosecutor, praying for judicial custody of the accused. The Court, after hearing the submission of APP and the defense counsel, sent the accused to judicial custody till February 2 for further investigation.
