IMPHAL, Jan 20 : The presence of a fertilizer eating ghost in Manipur is suspected as a few metric tonnes of subsidised diammonium phosphate (DAP) are suspected to have ‘disappeared’ in December 2025.
A large number of bags of fertilizer were transported from Nagaon in Assam to Manipur. However, the consignment has vanished mysteriously after reaching Manipur, said a highly reliable source.
The consignment was handled by a person whose dealership was earlier suspended by the  Government of Manipur, said the source.
The lost fertilizer is of the brand "Bharat DAP", marketed by Indorama India Private Limited.
A 50 Kg bag of the fertilizer in Imphal is sold at Rs 1,500.
The actual cost of a 50 Kg bag is Rs 2,739.95.
The cost of a subsidised bag is just Rs 1,350.
The Government of India provides specific allocation of fertilizer for Manipur and other States.
Usually, the fertilizers are transported from the West Bengal unit of Indorama India Private Limited via trai to Khongsang or Jiribam station. From these train stations, dealers organise transport for further transportation to Imphal.
The few metric tonnes of allocated fertilizer consignment in December 2025, however, was not brought to Khongsang or Jiribam train stations.
Instead, the person whose dealership was earlier suspended by the State Government received the consignment at Nagaon, and transported it to Manipur, said the source.
The whereabouts of the consignment after reaching Manipur is not known, added the source.
