Nephew pulled up in murder case of elderly woman

IMPHAL, Jan 21: A 30-year-old man has been pulled up by police in connection with the brutal murder of Oinam (ningol) Thoibi Devi. The 30-year old suspect identified as Surendrajit Oinam is said to be a nephew of the murder victim.
After Oinam (ningol) Thoibi Devi (78) d/o late Ibomchamubi was found brutally murdered inside her own house at Sing-jamei Oinam Thingel yes- terday afternoon, Suren-drajit Oinam was pulled up by a team of Singjamei police station last night.
Sources said that Surendrajit was closely associated with the deceased.
Surendrajit was produced before a Duty Magistrate this evening and remanded in police custody till January 30.
On the other hand, post mortem of the deceased was conducted at RIMS morgue this afternoon in the presence of an Executive Magistrate with full video coverage.
The body is likely to be claimed on Thursday for the last rites.
Held with drugs : A combined team of security forces arrested a man and seized 805 grams of brown sugar near the gate of Tadubi police station along the Imphal-Dima-pur road this morning.
The arrested individual has been identified as Avio S, s/o Salouni, from Katafimai Village in Senapati district. It is reported that Avio was travelling in a white Mahindra Bolero with a Nagaland registration number. He was found transporting 20 soap cases containing 805 grams of brown sugar. According to the police, he was arrested at the scene. A case has been registered at Tadubi police station.
