IMPHAL, Dec 21 : X-Polo Club were crowned the champions of the 39th Men’s State Level Polo Tournament following their 7-4 win over AR Polo Team-A in the title clash today at Mapal Kangjeibung.
The two sides started cautiously and were locked at 2-2 till the first chukker before X-Polo Club raced to a 5-2 lead in the second chukker.
The two sides drew nil in the third chukker before they shared 2 goals apiece in the final chukker. Eventually, X-Polo Club emerged triumphant and walked away with the title trophy.
Th Santosh starred in the match scoring four goals alone, all three for the winners in the second chukker before adding one in the final chukker that also saw L Atangba, who opened the scoring in the first chukker, scored his second and the last in the final chukker.
P Ojit also found his name on the scoresheet for contributing a goal to X-Polo Club’s tally in the first chukker that witnessed S Bon Bon and M Kuber scoring a goal apiece for AR Polo Team-A.
S Bon Bon scored both the goals in the final chukker for AR Polo Team-A but his effort fell short and eventually they went down 4-7.
The 34-team tournament organised by the All Manipur Polo Association was formally closed in the presence of Naorem Praveen, Secretary YAS/MA/OBC and SC as chief guest; Waikhom Ibohal, Registrar of Co-Operative Society and Dr Mayengbam Veto, Director YAS and Joint Secretary Home as guests of honour; and Dr Konsam Saratchandra, president All Manipur Polo Association as functional president.
X-Polo Club walked away Rs 50,000 richer along with the title trophy while AR Polo Team-A received a cash prize of Rs 40,000 and a trophy.
