Lt Col Rajiv Bakshi, SM (P) Memorial 20th Football Tournament concludes

Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Pherzawl District Football Association (PDFA), successfully organised the closing ceremony and finals of the Lt Col Rajiv Bakshi, SM (P) Memorial 20th Football Tournament at Mini Stadium, Parbung in Pherzawl district yesterday.
The ten-day tournament that began on January 10, brought together 16 spirited teams and featured 31 matches that drew enthusiastic participation and support.
The final day began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial of Lt Col Rajiv Bakshi, SM (P) of 13 Dogra, who made the supreme sacrifice on January 20, 2006.
Fondly remembered as the “Tiger of Tipaimukh”, his legacy of courage and empathy continues to inspire, with his words “Try to avoid civilian casualty” resonating deeply in the region.
The closing ceremony was attended by  Laltlanthang, joint secretary, Hmar Inpui GHQs, as chief guest, and Dr Nemchonghoi Kipgen, Medical Officer, Parbung CHC, as guest of honour.
Alongside Assam Rifles personnel, PDFA officials, village leaders, sports enthusiasts, and nearly 10,000 spectators, the gathering reflected the strong community bond forged through sport and remembrance, said PRO IGAR (S) in a press release.
On the sporting front, Parbung Youth Club secured third place after defeating Pherzawl Youth Club.
The grand finale witnessed a thrilling contest between Saikhamakawn FC and Sakawrdai Football Team (Mizoram) before Saikhamakawn FC sealed a close 2–1 victory to win the title.
The winners received a trophy and Rs 1,00,000, while the runners- up and second runners-up were awarded Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively, it said.
The tournament stood as a vibrant celebration of unity, peace, and youth empowerment, reaffirming the enduring spirit of sportsmanship in Manipur, it continued.
