69th NSG U-17 Judo C’ships Manipur settle for boys’ runners up as Punjab secure pole position; Delhi top girls’ table

IMPHAL, Jan 27 : Manipur boys finished runners up in the 69th National School Games U-17 Judo Championships that concluded yesterday here at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The Punjab judokas emerged boys’ team champions with 2 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals as Manipur managed 2 gold and 1 bronze medal to finish team runners up. Notably, Naorem Debajit won the boys’ -50 kg category gold medal by defeating Jatin of Punjab as Yumlembam Lenin got the better of Telangana’s Tharun Ramavath for the -55 kg category gold.
Chongtham Rocky sealed the bronze medal in the boys’ -73 kg category competition as Vaibhav Sain of UP beat Kushagra Bidhuri for the gold medal.
Aarush Dutta put Punjab on top of the boys’ tally by defeating Kerala’s Sabari V in the -60 kg category competition as Harshavarohan Motam of Telangana and A Ashwin of Tamil Nadu settled for the bronze medals.
Rajasthan’s Sourav meanwhile picked the -66 kg category yesterday by defeating Zala Ayush Narendra of Gujarat in the final.
Delhi girls secure team title
Delhi girls meanwhile sealed the champions title with 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals as Rajasthan bagged 2 gold medals to finish team runners up. Hosts Manipur finished 9th in the girls’ championship with 1 silver and 4 bronze medals.
The final day of the championship saw Gujarat’s Grishamaben Bhatt and Rajasthan’s Anjali Choudhari pick a gold medal apiece.
Grishamaben beat Shrishty of CBSE for the -57 kg category title as Anjali got the better of Manipur’s Asem Nonganleima for the -63 kg category title.
Takhellambam Aleena  (+70 kg), Waikhom Banish (-52 kg), Sagolshem Kananbala (-44 kg) and Mayanglambam Sunanda (-48 kg) bagged bronze medals for Manipur in the championship.
