IMPHAL, Jan 2 : Many have condemned the recent act of intimidation perpetrated by unknown persons targeting Dr Linda Marangmei and appealed authorities to bring the culprits to justice.
Dr Linda is a resident of Ragailong, Imphal East and wife of Dr James Bariam. She is an Associate Professor (Medicine) at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
On December 30, 2025, a suspicious sealed package containing three live bullets and a threatening letter was thrown into her residential premises at 7.51 pm, causing fear and apprehension for her safety and that of her family.
Denouncing the incident, Ragailong Women Society (RWS), Youth Club and Thoubei jointly staged a sit-in protest at Ragailong today.
According to Purnima Palmei, president, RWS, the warning letter was written on a plain paper without any letterhead.
The content of the letter referred to the death of a young girl (Khusi Sanjenbam) at RIMS Hospital.
Condemning such acts of criminal threat in a residential area, she demanded a swift clarification from the perpetrators involved. Otherwise, more intense forms of protests will be launched, she warned.
Issuing a strong condemnation, RIMS, Imphal has pointed out that the incident occurred at a time when an Independent Inquiry Committee has been scrutinizing the unfortunate demise of Late Khusi Sanjenbam (12).
Khusi was admitted to RIMS Hospital on May 27, 2025 and passed away on July 26, 2025.
Stating that the inquiry process is being carried out strictly in accordance with established procedures, RIMS, Imphal has asserted that any attempt to threaten or coerce a medical professional during an ongoing, lawful inquiry is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Additionally, it has demanded a thorough and immediate investigation by the appropriate authorities and pursuance of the strictest legal action against those responsible for the criminal act.
Calling it a grave violation of human rights, the Rongmei Naga Students' Organization Manipur (RNSOM) and All Inpui Students' Union (AISU) have also condemned the criminal intimidation directed at Dr Linda.
In separate press releases, RNSOM and AISU have urged the authorities to swiftly identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
AISU has further urged the concerned authorities to take immediate and decisive action to ensure Dr Linda's protection.
RNSOM has appealed Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to look into the matter and act upon it without further delay. It also warned that if any harm comes to the medical officer or her family, the incident will be considered an administrative failure and regarded as an open invitation for a serious wave of mass agitation.
RIMS, RNSOM and AISU have extended their solidarity to Dr Linda Marangmei and her family.
