Soon after, some locals also rushed in and they found some shoe prints on the floor inside the victim’s house.
In the course of investigation, the accused was picked up on suspicion for interrogation and on preliminary interrogation, Surendrajit admitted that he had committed the murder of his aunt.

This angered Surendrajit. He went to the kitchen, came back with a knife and stabbed the victim on the head several times, slit her throat and chopped the victim’s fingers.
Later, the dead body was dragged beneath the bed and covered with a blanket. He also tried to burn the dead body by using a small gas cylinder but in vain.

Even as Surendrajit’s parents came to Langdum to take him home, he rode on his scooty to another place on the way home.
On the next day (January 19), the accused went to Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai to purportedly buy a knife.
