Martyrs’ Day
IMPHAL, Jan 30: Manipur joined the Nation in observing Martyrs’ Day, also known as Shaheed Diwas, to honour those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. The day also marks the 78th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, said a statement issued by the Governor’s Secretariat.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the chief guest of the function, led the people in paying homage by laying a wreath at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal.
Members of the Legislative Assembly, Chief Secretary, Security Advisor and DGP along with senior civil and police officers, also laid wreaths at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi, paying tribute to his enduring legacy of truth and non-violence.
Besides the singing of bhajans, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed freedom fighters, it said.
