39th Men’s State Level Polo Tournament underway

IMPHAL, Jan 4 : The 39th edition of Men’s State Level Polo Tournament kicked off today under the auspices of the All Manipur Polo Association at Imphal’s historic Mapal Kangjeibung.
The opening of the tournament saw Luwangpokpa PC outlast Khurai PC by 8-0 goals courtesy of exemplary riding and scoring performances from K Jojendra (5 goals) and L Rohit (3 goals).
L Rohit found the breakthrough in the closing minute of the opening chukker to earn a slender 1-0 first chukker lead before Jojendra hit twice and L Rohit added one in the second chukker to make it 4-0.
L Rohit completed his treble in the second minute of the third chukker before Jojendra added his second to make it 6-0.
K Jojendra went on to score two more goals in the final chukker to complete his haul of five goals and the 8-0 rout of Khurai PC.
With the win, Luwangpokpa PC reached the last-16 stage of the 34 team tournament.
In the second match, Th Pamheiba’s treble went in vain as Black Watch PC-B edged out Thoubal District Polo Association (TDPA) by 4-3 goals.
The two sides were locked at 1-1 in the first chukker with Th Pamheiba scoring the opener for TDPA barely a minute into the game only to be equalised by Black Watch PC-B’s A Malemnganba in the fourth minute.
Sh Thailand then overturned the lead with a solo finish in the 5th minute of the second chukker,
Th Pamheiba added his second for TDPA in the fifth minute of the third chukker to draw level but Black Watch PC-B retained the lead with K Romeo finding the target in the 6th minute of the chukker.
Pamheiba once again scored the equaliser for TDPA 32 second into the final chukker but A Malemnganba scored the winner in the 6th minute.
