IMPHAL, Feb 1 : A sig-nature campaign is underway in Manipur to gather public support for a petition to be filed at the Supreme Court seeking unrestricted move-ment on National Highways and addressing alleged violence.
The campaign, led by transgender activist Malem Thongam, was officially launched today at Khurai Lamlong Ema Keithel in Imphal East district.
The campaign, which will continue till May 1, seeks to challenge the actions of Kuki organisations, including COTU, which are accused of restricting the movement of the Meitei community using “buffer zones” and engaging in continuous violence.
The launching event was attended by leaders of various organisations such as Lamlong Keithel Phambi Apunba Nupi Lup (Lamlong Bazar), Co-ordinating Committee Khurai, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, Koirengei Bazar Meira Paibi, Leishan Koirengei Manung Meira Paibi and Yaipha Nupi Lup Maibakhul.
