69th NSG Fencing for U-19 boys and girls Haryana top both boys and girls’ individual competitions

IMPHAL, Jan 31: Both Haryana boys and girls emerged on top of the individual competitions in the 69th National School Games Fencing for U-19 boys and girls being hosted by Manipur with 16 and 13 points respectively.
Samar scored Haryana’s final gold medal in the boys competition by defeating compatriot Prince Hooda in the epee final today as Athokpam Thomba of Manipur and Rabikumar Yadav of Bihar shared the bronze medal podium.
Tejaswani of Haryana on the other hand defeated Gayatri Parmeshwar Gote of Maharashtra in the girls individual foil final to help her team secure the top position.
Chaudhari Ridhi Ramesh and Huiningshungbam Tonibia Chanu of Manipur shared the bronze medal podium in this competition.
With this Manipur have amassed 7 medals including 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals in both the boys and girls individual events as Haryana amassed 4 gold and 3 silver medals.
Notably, Laikhuram Bomcha and Nepram Koubru had earlier made 1-2 podium finishes in the sabre individual event as Tamnganba Toijam sealed a bronze medal in foil competition. Pangambam Ambika meanwhile won a silver medal in the girls’ sabre competition as Pebam Diana bagged a bronze medal in the same event.
The third day of the games saw Maharashtra girls team comprising Gayatri Parmeshwar Gote, Samdruddhi Santosh Panhale, Vedanti Vasanta Kuranjekar and Shweta Sunil Godalkar meanwhile pick the foil competition gold as Haryana team comprising Palak, Tejaswani and Sanju settled for the silver medal.
Tamil Nadu team consisting of G Vibusha, Aditya Howsal SJ, Varsha R and Monika Muniyappan and Chandigarh team featuring Aaradhya Jolly, Saloni Chainwal, Diya Bisht and Chaitanya Gosain were adjudged third placed teams.
