Senapati, Jan 31: The Major Bob Khathing Memorial Football Tournament, organised by the Red Shield Division under the aegis of Spear Corps, concluded successfully with a thrilling final match held at the Senapati Astro Turf Football Ground.
In a well-fought, enthralling, and highly competitive final, Sadar Hills FA defeated Ngairei FC by 2–1 to lift the coveted memorial trophy. The match showcased high-quality football, tactical discipline, and immense determination from both sides, drawing enthusiastic support from the spectators present.
Menson FC secured the third position, adding to the competitive spirit witnessed throughout the tournament.
The tournament was organised to honour the legacy of Major Bob Khathing, a distinguished soldier, administrator, and statesman whose life and service continue to inspire generations.
The event was further blessed by the warm wishes from Dr John R Khathing, son of Major Bob Khathing, who, despite being unable to attend the program due to prior commitments, conveyed his presence in spirit and supported the tournament.
The organisers expressed gratitude to all participating teams, match officials, volunteers, and supporters for their cooperation and contribution to the successful conduct of the tournament.
While addressing the media, Roli Washington, vice president, Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM) expressed happiness stating that the Major Bob Khathing Memorial Football Tournament, 2026 concluded successfully on Saturday. The event was organised by the Indian army in collaboration with SDOAM.
The vice president stated that the SDOAM with various organisations in the district has been very keen to promote, mould and shape the young talents, urging them to come to the mainstream of football and many other disciplines to get involved and to make a career in games. SDOAM vice president also mentioned his happiness to work together with the youth of the district by providing them a platform to excel in football and other disciplines too.
The tournament that began on January 23 saw a healthy participation of 14 teams from different parts of the State.
The champions team went away with a cash prize of Rs  1.5 lakh with trophy as runners up Ngarei FC contented with Rs 75,000 and a trophy.
Kingson of Sadar Hills FA who scored 6 goals during the tournament received the golden boot trophy as Seiminlal of Sadar Hills FA received the golden glove and Rakeveiche of Ngairei FC claimed the golden ball trophy respectively.
