IMPHAL, Feb 11 : Following days of intense conflict involving arson and gunfire, uneasy calm prevails at Litan Village and surrounding areas today.
The violence at Litan erupted after a Tangkhul man was assaulted by some Kukis on February 7.
According to sources, there have been no report of any incidents at Litan at the time of filing this report today after security forces carried out a massive search operation at the village and its adjoining areas since yesterday afternoon.
The sources also said that gunfire between unknown armed groups has ceased following the reinforcement of security personnel in the area.
Although no fresh cases of arson have been reported at Litan, villagers remain shaken, as over 50 houses were burned down in just a couple of days, despite the deployment of security personnel.
Meanwhile, movement of vehicles along the Imphal-Ukhrul road remains disrupted, as no private vehicles are allowed to travel from Imphal to Ukhrul or vice versa.
Security personnel have imposed these restrictions to prevent any unwanted incidents along the route, according to the sources.
Reportedly, people from both Naga and Kuki communities were seen gathering at their respective areas, but security forces prevented them from proceeding toward the worst-affected parts of Litan.
There also have been no reports of confrontations between the security forces and members of the Naga or Kuki communities today.
The sources said that security measures have been intensified in the area.
