IMPHAL, Feb 11: A community losing their own culture and traditions is bound to meet a social demise, said Wangkhei Assembly Constituency MLA Thangjam Arunkumar today.
He said this at an event held at Manipur State Film Development Society's auditorium at Palace Compound, Imphal.
The event was held to distribute 2nd National Youth Cultural Awards 2026 and Thangjam Birachandra and Thangjam Ongbi Maipakpi Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award 2026.
Speaking to the gathering, Arunkumar said it is the responsibility of every individual to protect and promote their own culture and tradition.
The people of the State feel proud of being Manipuris for "our rich culture and tradition", he said.
"Our culture and traditions are heritage passed down to us by our forefathers. Protecting these values is our responsibility. Our society will die when we lose our culture and traditions," he said.
Manipur as a State was protected and safeguarded by "our forefathers". "The reason we are able to pride ourselves as Manipuris is because of their sacrifices," he said.
To be able to face the issues facing Manipur, people must unite, he added.
He also lauded the women's society for their contributions.
Women are leading in every field, including sports, and they lead from the front in every mass movement and issues facing the Manipuri society, he added.
