IMPHAL, Feb 12 : Security forces thwarted an attempt to storm the residence of Churachandpur AC MLA LM Khaute who recently attended the oath taking ceremony of new Chief Minister Y Khemchand at the Lok Bhavan in Imphal.
Around noon today, a large group of protesters, organised by the Vaiphei Women’s Association, gathered at the Vaiphei People’s Council office. They then took out a protest rally toward the residence of the MLA at Hill Town, holding placards and banners.
They are displeased with Khaute that he took part in the Government formation process.
Security personnel attempted to block the protesters at various junctions, but a major scuffle ensued between the unruly mob and the security forces as the protesters intensified their march toward the MLA’s residence.
As the protesters neared the residence, security forces fired tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the crowd and pushed them back from the area.
The protesters later staged a sit-in protest, blocking the road and chanting slogans against MLA LM Khaute.
Sources stated that the protest was organised in response to MLA Khaute’s support for the formation of the new  State Government under the leadership of Yumnam Khemchand. The protesters vowed to intensify their demonstrations until the MLA withdraws his support to the Government.
