Vehicle lifter sent to jail

IMPHAL, Feb 13 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has remanded a 29 year old vehicle lifter to judicial custody.
Reportedly, the accused, Buyamayum Iliya Khan, s/o Jakir Huisen of Lilong Sangomshang was apprehended while stealing a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 motorcycle at Canchipur on February 7.
He was produced before the Court following the completion of his police custody period.
What the police say
Muhammad Musqur, a resident of Heibongmakhong Mathak Leikai, Maibam Konjil, filed a complaint with the Officer-in-Charge of Singjamei police station, stating that he and his cousin parked his Royal Enfield Meteor 350 on the roadside of National Highway 102, just opposite Thongam I Phone Shop at Canchipur on February 7 .
The two men then crossed the road on foot to enter the shop.
While in the store, Musqur noticed the accused, Buyamayum Iliya Khan, tampering with and eventually stealing his motorcycle.
Musqur immediately raised an alarm and chased the thief. After running about 15 to 20 feet, Musqur and some bystanders were able to catch the accused and stop him. During the apprehension, the accused was found in possession of tools used to forcibly open the motorcycle’s lock.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that earlier that day, he and his friend, Pravez, who he had met while using heroin, had been together at Lilong Bazar. According to the accused, Pravez had driven to his house in an A-Star car, bringing heroin with him.
The two men used the drug together inside the car. Afterward, Pravez suggested stealing a motorcycle since they lacked the funds to buy more heroin.
The accused further stated that they had attempted to steal a motorcycle earlier in the day but were unsuccessful. They drove toward Imphal along National Highway 102, looking for an opportunity.
Upon reaching Singjamei, they turned back towards Canchipur, where the accused noticed the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 parked on the roadside.
He used an L-key to break the lock, and stole the bike while Pravez drove the A-Star car ahead of him.
The accused was caught when bystanders raised an alarm, but Pravez managed to escape in the A-Star.
Police are continuing their investigation to locate Pravez and recover the vehicle used in the crime.
The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) presented the case in the Court, stating that prima facie evidence supported the charges against the accused and requested judicial custody for further investigation.
After hearing the submission and reviewing the case, the Court remanded the accused in judicial custody till February 26.
