1st Assam Rifles Foothills Football Championship concludes

SENAPATI, Feb 12: New Keithelmanbi Part II Team B have emerged the winners of the 1st Assam Rifles Foothills Football Championship at New Keithelmanbi.
13 teams, including eight Naga teams, three Meitei teams and two Kuki teams, participated in the 4-day tournament, which kicked off on February 9 as part of Operation Sadbhavana initiative.
In the final match today, New Keithelmanbi Part II Team B (Meitei) beat Haibung FC (Kuki) 5–2 to bag the tournament title.
The winning team were awarded a trophy, individual medals and certificates, and a cash prize of Rs 20,000.
The runner-up team received a cash prize of Rs 10,000, trophy, medals and certificates.
Athoiba Yumnam of the New Keithelmanbi Part II Team B was awarded the prize for best player of the tournament. He scored five goals.
A Shyamananda of the New Keithelmanbi Part II Team B was named the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament for saving four goals.
The tournament was organised with an aim to strengthen the community ties between Metei, Kuki and Naga communities, said the Assam Rifles.
