IMPHAL, Feb 13 : S Ashalata of Thoubal clinched the 50+ women’s singles title at the 24th State Veteran Table Tennis Tournament organised by the Manipur Veteran Table Tennis Association at Indoor Stadium, DM University Campus.
Ashalata thumped N Sushila of Imphal East 11-4, 11-5, 11-7 to seal the top honour of the competition today.
S Chandra Sharma of Imphal West meanwhile claimed the 65+ men’s singles title with a 12-10, 11-5, 11-7 win over compatriot T Nirmal in the final today.
Chandra reached the final with a 11-9, 11-7, 11-8 win over Imphal East’s RK Debendra in the first semi-final staged earlier in the day.
Nirmal on the other hand won 11-7, 5-11, 11-5, 11-5 against compatriot T Manihar in the second semi-final match to seal the final ticket.
The day also saw S Joychandra of Imphal East lifting the 60+ men’s singles title by defeating Ksh Manihar of Kakching 11-4, 11-6, 11-5 in the final today.
W Premila tops 60+ women’s title
W Premila defeated Ibeyaima 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 in an all Imphal West final round clash to top the league table of the 60+ women’s singles competition.
Ibeyaima had defeated O Hemolata of Imphal East 11-8, 16-14, 7-11, 11-6 in the first round before getting a walkover win in the second round.
Winner Ibeyaima meanwhile opened her account with a 11-4, 11-5, 11-2 win over O Hemolata of Imphal East in the first round before getting a walkover win in the second round.
Doubles
Imphal West’s pair of Soibam Sorojini and L Sumila sealed the women’s doubles title of the championships by handing the IW-MPSC pair of A Sanatombi and N Dhanapyari a 3-1 defeat in the final. Sorojini and Sumila went down 6-11 in the opening set but fought back to dominate in the following sets to come out 6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-5 winners.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Sanatombi and Dhanapyari outlasted IW-IE pair of Ibeyaima and Sushila 12-10, 13-11, 11-7 while Sorojini and Sumila edged out IW and Kakching pair of Radharani and N Sanahalbi 11-5, 13-11, 11-8.
In the meantime, IW-IE pair of T Premchand and S Joychandra emerged as the 60+ men’s doubles winners as they edged the IE pair of G Ananta Sharma and RK Deben 11-5, 12-14, 11-2, 11-7 in the title clash. Earlier in the day, Premchand-Joychandra pair reached the final with a 11-4, 11-7, 11-6 win over T Nirmal and Ksh Manihar while Ananta and Deben outlasted IE-IW pair of S Lolendro and Th Rajendra 11-9, 11-6, 13-11 to complete the final line up.
