IMPHAL, Feb 16: The Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM) has submitted a representation on the recent violent conflict at Litan to Supreme Court appointed Justice Gita Mittal Committee.
The representation, supported by photographic "evidence", accused security forces of acting in a partisan manner and supporting armed Kuki militants in burning Tankhul Naga houses at Ukhrul's Litan during the conflict.
The IPFM said the violent clashes involving Tangkhul Nagas and the Kukis at Litan Sareikhong village on February 8 was condemned by all sections of the people.
It asserted that Kuki militants "fully backed by security forces" burned 25 residential houses of the Tangkhul people in broad daylight on the day of the conflict.
"The irresponsible action of the Central security forces forfeited the trust and confidence of the people as the forces acted in a partisan manner," said the IPFM.
Enclosing photographic "evidence" to support its assertion, the IPFM claimed the houses of the Kukis were guarded by the security forces while houses of the Tangkhul Nagas were left unprotected.
The manner in which the Assam Rifle personnel acted need to be condemned vehemently and they should be given befitting punishment, it said.
It further alleged that "the Kuki militants in cahoots with Central military forces are trying to burn the remaining homes of the Tangkhul Nagas in Litan."
It claimed the Kuki militants have been staying alongside the Central security forces at Mongkot Chepu, Shangkai and Litan.
While the Central security forces meted out harassment to Tangkhul womenfolk and warned their youths of dire consequences, they are extending help and giving logistic support to Kuki militants, it claimed.
"Therefore, it is an urgent request placed before the Justice Gita Mittal Committee to look into this volatile issue and urge the Union Government to intervene in the immediate future and set things right, taking into account the hardship, difficulties and inconveniences being faced by the people of Litan," it said.
Till now more than 25 dwelling houses of Tangkhul Nagas have been reduced to ashes by the Kuki militants in "collaboration" with Assam Rifles. There are instances of a series of allegations levelled against the Central Paramilitary Forces for siding with Kuki militants at different places by various CSOs in Manipur, it added.
