IMPHAL, Feb 16: The Manipur Information Commission (MIC) has directed the Education (S) Department's Joint Secretary to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 for failing to provide information related to the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE), 2018.  The penalty was imposed on the Education Department's State Public Information Officer (Joint Secretary) by the Manipur Information Commission on February 10 after hearing a complaint filed by RTI activist Wahengbam Joykumar.
The RTI activist had sought information pertaining to an inquiry initiated to probe irregularities in the HSLCE 2018.
The results of the HSLCE 2018 were declared on May 25, 2018. A student who cleared the examination in first division was found ranked among the top 25 when answer scripts were re-evaluated. A 3-member inquiry was then formed on July 25, 2018 to probe irregularities.
Meanwhile, the RTI activist had sought the report of the enquiry committee along with action taken.
In its order, the Manipur Information Commission said the penalty amount would be deducted from the salary of the SPIO. The commission directed the SPIO to file an affidavit with supporting evidence to prove his case and a status report on the next hearing on March 10.
