1st Martyr Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri Memorial Trophy 2026 hosted in Israel

IMPHAL, Feb 17 : The Manipur Gorkha Community Israel successfully organized the 1st Martyr Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri Memorial Trophy from February 13 to 14, 2026 in Tel Aviv, Israel, in honor of the bravery and sacrifice of Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri.
Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri, the first Indian Gorkha soldier to attain martyrdom, was hanged to death by the British at Kangla Fort in 1891 for his role in defending Manipur during the Anglo-Manipur War. Nine teams from India and Nepal, currently working in Israel, participated in the football tournament, said the Manipur Gorkha Community Israel in a press release.
In the final, Manipur Gorkha FC defeated United Darjeeling FC 1-0 to seal the title of the tournament while Ajoy Basnet, who scored the winner, was named man of the match, it said.
Jhapa FC Israel Trophy were named best disciplined team while the individual prize winners meanwhile include best defender-Sagar Rai of United Darjeeling FC; top scorer- Vivek Chhetri of Lion Tel Aviv FC; best goalkeeper- Kushal Rai of Manipur Gorkha FC and best player- Chandan Thapa of Manipur Gorkha FC, it said.
