IMPHAL, Feb 2: A memorandum urging the Government of India not to establish armed Kuki SoO camps in Naga areas has been submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, said Ashang Kasar today.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, the chief advisor of the Indigenous People's Forum Manipur (IPFM) said the memorandum, which was also submitted to the Governor, urged the Government to share the status of the tripartite Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact between Government of India, Government of Manipur and militant groups under Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People's Front (UPF).
Ashang said the militant groups under the SoO pact have been posing a threat to the indigenous people of Manipur.
He said the SoO armed groups are "engaging" in poppy cultivation in the hills and intimidating the people.
He said the current status of the SoO agreement is not known, causing confusion among the people.
While the Union Home Minister and the Governor have been urged to share the current status of the SoO agreement, the memorandum also urged the Government against establishing SoO camps in Naga areas, he said.
Notably, the Suspension of Operation (SoO) was extended on September 4, 2025 amid calls to abrogate it.
