IMPHAL, Feb 21 : MPSC, Old Lambulane were crowned the champions of the 5th MNCA Superplate Trophy 2025-26 as they registered a 5-wicket final victory against PCC, Mayaikoibi at Khudeiband Lampak, Taothong this afternoon.
PCC raised a respectable total of 223 runs for 5 wickets in the allotted 35 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first this morning but MPSC fought their way to the winning 226 for the loss of 5 wickets in 33.3 overs to lift the title trophy of the season.
PCC got off to a confident start with both the openers- Charoibam Tyson and Thokchom Anand making half centuries. PCC reached 102 in 19.3 overs with Anand hitting Gelson Thoudam for a 6 before their 113-run first wicket partnership ended with the departure of Tyson on 68 as he holed out to M Bijoykumar off the bowling of Sarangthem Shangker.
Thokchom Anand also held on to smash his half century and forged another remarkable partnership of 66 runs off just 41 runs with Ningthoujam Rohit joining the scoring spree.
Shangker however set up Anand’s catch to to undone him on 63 and reduced PCC to 179/2 in 28.1 overs.
Shangker also picked Takhelmayum Vikash on 2 for the third wicket but Ningthoujam Rohit who came in at number 3 kept the scoreboard ticking and remained unbeaten on 57 off 37 balls to help PCC amass 223 runs for 5 wickets.
S Shangker returned with the best bowling figures of 3/35 in 7 overs as Maibam Bijoykumar (1/53) and Habibullah Ahammed (1/37) shared the other two wickets.
Chasing 224 for the victory, Gelson Singh Thoudam produced a sensible knock of 81-ball 88 to give MPSC a flourishing start. His knock include 10 fours and 4 sixes.
He played a key role in forging 125 runs off just 102 balls for the first wicket with Sagolshem Sunil (37 off 41) who was undone by Takhelmayum Vikash before stitching another 27 runs off 32 balls with Yumkham Balajit before he was bowled out for the second wicket by T Vikash in the second delivery of the 23rd over.
Yumkham Balajit and S Shangker then combined well to take MPSC to 200 in 30.4 overs and kept the chase alive. Lucky Lucky Thokchom of PCC unleashed his fierce bowling to break their partnership of 60 runs off 54 balls by bowling out Shangker on 37 for the third wicket in the 2nd delivery of the 32nd over. Lucky went on to dismiss Yumkham Balajit on 26 and incoming Soubam Kingson on 1 in the fourth and the final deliveries of the 32nd over and made it 214/5.
Lucky Thokchom’s effort however went in vain the target was almost within the reach by then and Rabikanta Sharma Sanglakpam delivered the win by hiting Lucky Thokchom for a four in the 3rd delivery of the 34th over. Thounaojam Rakesh 2 not out off 5 was on the other end of the crease when Rabikanta sealed the victory.
Winners MPSC were feted with a cash prize of Rs 1,50,000, certificates and a trophy as PCC received a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, certificates and a trophy.
Sarangthem Shangker who shone with both the bat and ball today was also named player of the series and highest wicket taker as he claimed 24 wickets and added 284 runs in 8 innings and feted with cash prize of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively along with trophies.
Laishram Vivekananda, meanwhile, emerged highest run scorer as he amassed 458 runs in 8 innings and was feted with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a trophy as Gelson Thoudam was named player of the final match and feted with a cash prize of Rs 3,000 and a trophy.
