Remand for two

IMPHAL, Feb 24 : The Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Thoubal, today remanded two individuals, arrested for allegedly supplying exam materials to students during the ongoing High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, to police custody.
Accused, Konsam Deepak (28), son of Ibobi and Sagolsem Umakanta (50), son of Yaima, both residents of Charangpat Mayai Leikai, were produced before the Court by a team of Nongpok Sekmai Police Station.
Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) for the State informed the Court that the complainant in the case, Ayam Thoi, Controller of Examination of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM), reported that the accused were apprehended on the afternoon of February 23 by volunteers of a student organisation at the PLC Academy Yairipok examination centre.
The two accused were found in a Maruti van parked near the school, with a range of electronic equipment, including an inverter machine, battery, printer-cum-photocopier, laptop with charger, two mobile phones, and copies of English literature books and course material for Class X.
They were allegedly using these materials to prepare and distribute photocopies of answer sheets for the Class X English subject via a WhatsApp group, of which they were members.
The alleged actions are in direct violation of the Manipur Prevention of Malpractices on High School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary Examination Act, 2024, said the prosecutor
The accused were handed over to Nongpok Sekmai Police Station last night.
During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in the malpractice.
The APP requested a seven-day police custody for the accused, citing the need for further interrogation to gather more evidence for the investigation.
After hearing the submissions and reviewing the case details, the Court remanded both accused to police custody till March 2 to facilitate a smooth and thorough investigation.
