IMPHAL, Feb 24 : The women’s wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has urged all concerned to refrain from soliciting donations for Thabal Chongba by stopping vehicles on the roads.
Speaking to the media at Lamphel today, W Luwang Leima, convenor of COCOMI's women’s wing, emphasised that the practice of collecting money from passers-by in the middle of the roads to fund Thabal Chongba must stop, as it creates a negative impression.
She also urged all local clubs and meira paibi groups to ensure that young girls do not collect money from passers-by for Thabal Chongba.
Given the unpredictable situation in Manipur, she appealed to all local clubs to ensure that Thabal Chongba is celebrated only during the Yaoshang Festival and not beyond that. Furthermore, she urged all concerned to avoid excessive decorations for Thabal Chongba and ensure that the event concludes by 11 pm.
