Remand for man held with 15 Kg drugs

IMPHAL, Feb 3: Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has remanded a 46-year-old man, accused of peddling drugs, to seven days police custody till February 9.
The accused, identified as Md Sabir Ahamed, was arrested by a team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border along with 15.556 kilograms of brown sugar from North AOC, under Imphal police station, Imphal West, yesterday.
Md Sabir Ahamed hails from Lilong Nungei.
In the Court of the CJM, the Prosecutor submitted that Md Sabir Ahamed was arrested by NAB acting on information received about banned drugs being transported from Lilong Nungei to Guwahati in a truck.
NAB personnel then rushed to the North AOC, opposite the MPSC office, and found the truck parked.
NAB then detained the driver, Md Sabir Ahamed.
During preliminary interrogation, Md Sabir disclosed that six packets of brown sugar were kept concealed in one of the spare tyres, said the prosecutor.
Six packets of brown sugar weighing 15.556 kilograms in total were seized along with the Tata truck bearing Assam registration number, added the prosecutor.
The prosecutor continued that Md Sabir has revealed the involvement of one other person, Sahi Khan of Lilong Nungei who managed to evade the NAB.
The mobile phone of Sahi Khan has been seized and a search has been conducted at his house, said the prosecutor, praying to the Court for police custody remand of the accused for smooth investigation.
The Court, after hearing the submissions, remanded accused Md Sabir to police custody for 7 days till February 9.
It further directed NAB to produce the accused before the Court of Special Judge ND&PS on February 9.
