IMPHAL, Feb 3 : Haryana were crowned the overall team champions in the 69th National School Games Fencing for U-19 boys and girls with 49 points as hosts Manipur settled for overall team runners up title with 43 points.
Haryana who dominated the individual competitions with 4 gold and 3 silver medals sealed the pole position thanks to boys’ team foil gold, girls’ team foil silver. Boys epee team and sabre team also settled for a bronze medal apiece to finish on top.
Haryana also emerged boys’ team champions as Manipur finished runners up and Maharashtra claimed the girls’ team title as Haryana finished runners up.
Manipur meanwhile sealed the overall team runners up title with 43 points on the back of 3 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals.
The final day of the games being held at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex saw Manipur dominate both the boys and girls’ team sabre gold medals.
Manipur’s Laikhuram Ibomcha Khuman, Koubru Nepram, Hanjabam Denial Sharma and Guruaribam Sinlamba Sharma defeated Arlin A V, Vinish Kumar KJ, Sebinchikar D and Bemisalth Santhakumar of Tamil Nadu to seal the boys’ sabre gold medal.
CBSE team and Haryana team settled for the bronze medal in the boys’ sabre team competition.
The girls’ sabre team comprising Thoisana Hijam, Pangambam Ambika, Pebam Diana and Erica Nongmaithem meanwhile got the better of Punjab team featuring Milanpreet, Kirandeep Kaur, Lovedeep Kaur and Sukhmanpreet Kaur to seal the gold medal.
Karnataka and Chandigarh shared the bronze medal podium in this competition.
Notably, the girls’ epee team gold medal went to Punjab team comprising Gursukhman Kaur Mann, Guranshveer Kaur, Amitoj and Harsirat Kaur who defeated Maharashtra team consisting of Mane Vaibhavi Prashant, Prajakta Pritam Pawar, Bhakti Sanjay Solanki and Apurba Ananda Kalakes in the final.
The Manipur team featuring Lanchenbi Oinam, Konsam Jenita, Nganthoi Okram and Yaiphabi Pangambam shared the bronze medal podium with the Karnataka team in this competition.
Maharashtra and Haryana made 1-2 podium finishes in the girls foil team competition as Tamil Nadu and Chandigarh team settled for the bronze medals.
