IMPHAL, Feb 3: Serious differences have emerged among the Kuki-Zo MLAs at a time when a new popular Government is about to be sworn in with Yumnam Khemchand as the Chief Minister.
Because of the sharp differences among the Kuki-Zo MLAs, the Kuki-Zo Legislative Members Forum formed with a vision to work collectively with a single mind has virtually collapsed.
Following the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023, the Kuki-Zo Legislative Members Forum was formed so that the Kuki-Zo MLAs can work together on a common platform with a single mind.
Seven BJP MLAs, two KPA MLAs and one Independent MLA are mem- bers of the forum. Independent MLA Haokholet Kipgen (Saitu AC) is the convenor of the forum.
One member of the forum told The Sangai Express  that the forum has failed to serve its purpose with the MLAs preferring to act independently according to their own wisdom.
The Kuki-Zo MLA who sought anonymity expressed confidence that Kuki-Zo MLAs will be a part of the new Government.
The Kuki-Zo MLAs went to Delhi to attend the meeting held today with BJP Central leaders on their own without any collective decision or common agenda.
BJP MLAs went as BJP members and the KPA MLAs too as KPA legislators. The main motive behind the Kuki-Zo MLAs acting independently is securing Ministerial berths, the MLA said.
He said that all the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs want Ministerial berths.
At the same time, they know well that all of them would not get Ministerial berths.
Those MLAs who have lost confidence of securing Ministerial berths have been instigating unrest and even circulated a false propaganda on social media that the Kuki-Zo MLAs will resign, said the MLA who refused to be named.
He said that whatever is seen today is related to securing or missing Ministerial berths.
On the other hand, regarding the propaganda circulated on social media that the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs may resign, Kuki-Zo Legislative Members Forum convenor MLA Haokholet Kipgen said that there is no information on possible resignation of any Kuki-Zo MLA nor has there been any discussion on resignation.
