IMPHAL, Feb 3 : The BJP Manipur has described the Budget for 2026-27, tabled by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as a historic one that will benefit the people.
Speaking to the media at Thambal Shanglen at Nityaipat Chuthek today, BJP Manipur vice president N Nimbus stated that the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is committed to making India a developed Nation by 2024, and the Budget for this year will play a key role in achieving that goal.
He added that the Budget places a strong emphasis on youth empowerment, industrial sector, infrastructure development, long-term energy security and stability, capacity building, and increasing farmers' income, among other priorities.
The public capital expenditure has also increased by 9 percent compared to the previous Budget and the same will play a crucial role in boosting infrastructure development, the BJP leader said.
He further stated that Rs 10,000 crore has been allocated to the SME Growth Fund to support the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Further stating that the Government is working to establish seven high-speed rail corridors to enhance connectivity between major cities, Nimbus added that the Government has also set a five-year target to boost the pharma sector and credential medicine research hubs.
The Budget also highlighted the establishment of India's Semiconductor Mission 2.0, the construction of girl hostels in every district and the reformation of the banking sector, he added.
Moreover, Nimbus said the Budget emphasized the establishment of five regional medical tourism hubs, the promotion of heritage and cultural destinations, among other initiatives.
Noting that cancer and diabetes medications have become more affordable, he mentioned that the Budget includes provisions to reduce the cost of batteries for electric vehicles to promote e-vehicles and combat air pollution.
He continued that the Government has launched Budget Prachar Abhiyan 2026, a public outreach campaign to explain the key highlights of the Union Budget 2026–27 at the grassroot level.
The campaign will continue till February 10, he said.
When asked about the Congress party's claim that the Budget lacks provisions for internally displaced persons (IDPs), he stated that the Congress has a habit of opposing every Budget presented by the Government.
He explained that the Government has been actively working to provide various packages for IDPs, even though it has already been offering assistance to them.
