IMPHAL, Feb 3 : The Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 is detrimental to the people of Manipur, said K Meghachandra, president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), today.
Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan, Meghachandra, the MLA of Wangkhem AC, stated that the Budget, despite its large allocation, doesn't have any specific provisions for Manipur.
The Budget does not allocate any provisions for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been suffering in relief camps, he said and called it an "anti-people" Budget.
He also stated that the Government's disregard for the people of Manipur is clearly reflected in the Budget.
Saying that the Government should have allocated a special package for Manipur, Meghachandra emphasised that what the people want is for the Government to do its job.
The crisis in Manipur is nearing its third year, he said and added that the Budget tabled in Parliament fails to reflect any measures to resolve the ongoing crisis.
