Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary on Tuesday informed Parliament about the financial assistance provided to Manipur for flood relief and disaster management.
Responding to a question raised by Manipur MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Chaudhary told the Lok Sabha that the Centre released around Rs 629.71 crore to Manipur during the 2024–25 and 2025–26 financial years. The funds were meant for relief related to natural disasters, including floods.
Further, replying to a supplementary question, the Minister said the amount includes Rs 79.20 crore as the Centre’s share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). In addition, the Government provided Rs 197 crore under a special assistance scheme for capital investment linked to disaster-related components. The Minister said the funding aims to support relief, rehabilitation, and restoration of infrastructure damaged by floods and landslides.
Moreover, he added that this assistance is separate from broader Central support. This includes a Rs 500 crore corpus announced in March 2025 to aid Manipur’s economic recovery.
Notably, floods in June 2025 affected 1,64,879 people across the State. According to official reports, the disaster damaged 35,342 houses in 643 localities.
Meanwhile, multiple breaches in the Imphal, Kongba, and Iril rivers worsened the situation. As a result, authorities evacuated nearly 4,000 people and shifted them to safer locations. The State administration also opened 77 temporary relief camps to shelter those displaced by the floods.  North East Now
