Developing Shirui as heritage village, Bakshi ground Steps in line to boost tourism

UKHRUL, Feb 3: The Government has completed the process for development of Shirui Heritage Village and Bakshi ground to boost tourism under a Rs 60 crore project.
The project will be taken up under Special Assistance to State for Capital Investment (SASCI) FY 2025-26.
The Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) is a comprehensive scheme to develop iconic, lesser-known, and established tourist destinations to a global standard.
The project was announced by Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Ashish Das at his office today.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the Government has approved and sanctioned Rs 60 crore for development of Shirui Heritage Village and Bakshi ground to boost tourism in Ukhrul district.
The work components include adventurous track, museum, amphi theatre etc, he said.
While boosting tourism, the project will transform the Shirui Lily Festival into a vibrant tourism festival, he added.
Once the project is completed, it will reduce the cost of constructing makeshift hall, stage etc, Ashish Das said.
The development of the Shirui Heritage Village and the Bakshi ground will begin shortly. The work has been awarded to M/S Bhartia Infra Projects Limited (BIPL), Das said.
He said the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) office, Ukhrul will oversee and ensure the completion of the project.
Further, the district administration has constituted a separate body including headmen, Shirui lily organising members to check the quality of the work. A third party, Ukhrul District Community Resource Manage- ment Society (UDCRMS), has also been engaged to monitor the progress of the work, Das said.
The project is scheduled to be completed within 36 months, he added.
Ukhrul district has great tourism potential, and there will be a huge inflow of visitors from other States once the project is completed, Das said.
The project will also help generate substantial income and boost the rural economy for sustainable livelihood, Das added.
He further informed that the DRDA has a further plan for creating a tourism circuit for the district in order to attract more visitors.
Das said a vision map has been devised to further develop tourism in the district.
