IMPHAL, Feb 4 : Both the split squads of Young Physique Union (YPHU), Lalambung Makhong--- YPHU-Warrior (W) and YPHU-Nongin (N), got off to winning starts today in the XIII T-20 Manipur Veteran Cricket Tournament being hosted by the Manipur Veteran Cricket Association at Langthabal Public Ground.
In the Group B opening match staged this morning, YPHU-W pulled off a 3-wicket win over YWC, Langthabal in a final over thriller.
YWC rose on leading knocks from Prakashmani 42 off 47 and Manaobi 20 off 20 to raise 129 for 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first.
In reply, Bikram 24 off 26, Romeo 23 off 30, Ponil 21 off 11, Kumarkanta 20 off 18 made a concerted effort to keep the chase alive. The situation became tense towards the end as YPHU-W lost all key batters and needed 4 runs to win off the last two deliveries but Heromen who came in at number 10 hit Dinachandra for a maximum in the fifth delivery of the final over to steer YPHU-W to winning 132 with a ball left to spare.
Dularva who led the YPHU-W bowling attack and returned with a three wicket haul (3/23) before contributing 7 runs in the chase, was adjudged man of the match.
Kumarkanta (2/21) and Maison (2/11) were also among the wickets for YPHU-W as Tejkumar (2/19), Priyokumar (2/19) and Dinachandra (1/23) shared 5 wickets for YWC.
Later in the day, YPHU-N kicked off the Group C campaign with a 62-run thrashing of RNEF, Mayang Imphal.
Then Then topscored with a 51-ball 61 and Dhaneshwor added 43 off 26 to help toss winners YPHU-N rack up 168 runs for the loss of 5 wickets before Surjit  (3/16), Gyanranjan (2/6), Dhaneshor (2/4), and Rajesh (1/20) restricted RNEF to a meagre total of 106 runs for 9 wickets in response.
Raju (1/37), Premchandra (1/32), Max (1/9) and Romio (1/7) shared a wicket apiece for RNEF in the first innings before Romio 29 not out, Jagu 28, and Sanatomba 17 led the scoring for the team in a lost cause.
